SB mlist: explanation and error

If you have received this message by ordinary email, it means that you
are subscribed to the "Sandbaggers" mailing list. When I submitted a
list of possible list members to the list administrator, I was unclear
and he thought I meant that everyone had already asked to be subscribed,
so he signed everybody up. I regret the error. If you do not wish to
be subscribed, I repeat the instructions for being removed from the
list:

To unsubscribe from the list, send mail to <Majordomo@skylee.com> with
the following command in the body of your email message:

unsubscribe sandbaggers Your Name <you@your.address>

Now, a little history. Two weeks ago, Nicole Vifian started up an ad
hoc SB mailing list consisting of about 10 people who she knew might be
interested in talking about "The Sandbaggers." I had been saving up a
list of roughly 40 possible SB mlist subscribers for the past two years
against the day when such a project got underway. I misunderstood
Nicole, though, who explained that she was running the mini-list "by
hand" and didn't have either the capacity to handle 50 list members by
hand or the software to automate the list. That was when I sent out the
request for a volunteer to automate such a list. Arthur C. Kyle stepped
forward and with admirable speed set up the list that you are now
reading this from. So roughly 50 people are now reading this, including
those previously on the mini-list. I've sent out an announcement of the
formation of the list to the appropriate USENET newsgroups and to the
"Blake's 7" mailing list, because a lot of SB fans are also B7 fans.
(If anyone knows of a mlist for the series "The Professionals," I'd be
obliged if they would forward the announcement to it or else tell me how
to do so, as there is sometimes overlap with that fandom as well.)

Roughly 115K of discussion from the mini-group has accumulated in the
last two weeks. I've forwarded this on to Arthur, who was talking about
making it available to the larger group, assuming none of the mini-group
members objects. The burning issues discussed so far range from whether
Burnside was justified in his actions to whether the actor playing Jeff
Ross was really American.

Other materials soon to be available:

I've drawn up a rough draft of a FAQ, but I'm waiting for someone to
come back from vacation to fill in some of the details for me.

I've forwarded a list of the regular SB actors' agents' addresses to
Arthur.

If we're lucky, electronic versions of some old hard-copy SB letterzines
may become available at a later date.
