Yes, his (Alan MacNaughtan's) character was named Lawrie. The episode
of Duchess of Duke Street is the eleventh from the first series (1976),
and is titled "No Lawyers, No Letters". It's the only episode of
DDS in which MacNaughtan appears. Richard Vernon, on the other hand,
was a series regular as Major Smith-Barton. Well, semi-regular,
appearing in 6 of the 15 episodes in series 1, and 12 of the 16
episodes of series 2.

All of this discussion reminds me--isn't there supposed to be an
Actors' Other Roles list a-brewing for the FAQ? Now, actors as
well-known as Richard Vernon and Alan MacNaughtan one can look up
in any number of standard references, but what about other recurring
SB characters, like Brian (Barkley Johnson) and Ted (Richard Shaw)?
Since Jerome Willis was spotted in a Doctor Who story or two, I can
offer a DW appearance for Richard Shaw ("The Space Museum", though
his name got mangled in the "movie" version credits--to "Shore"!!),
but I come up a blank on Johnson, unless he's the same as "Barclay"
Johnson, who had a small part in one episode of Flambards.
