I'm not sure Avon was so idealistic. I seem to remember him deliberately
sacrificing a woman who help them escape the Federation, and trying to throw
villa out the airlock to reduce the weight on the shuttle.

On the other hand, Burnside (from the six episodes I've seen). doesn't seem
idealistic either. I'd say they're both obsessed, and loot out to anyone who
gets in the way.
