I quite agree; anything between Willie and Marianne was, in my view,
very minor in the Scheme of Things. I just meant to suggest that either
it was foreshadowed by Diane's speech, or else some such thing was on
the cards before Diane's departure was decided. (I don't know when
Diane made that speech; and I didn't quote it verbatim.)
