>Why does [Wellingham] want Neil back as his son-in-law?

Because Wellingham cares about his daughter, who apparently
wants Neil back as a husband. My question is--given what we've
seen of Neil's ability to be abrasive when he's displeased with
someone--why does Belinda want him back? Did she see a side of
him we've never seen--something like the way Neil was when
Laura was alive? Did he temper his words and actions even
when the marriage was rocky because of Belinda's connection with
Wellingham? If not, those last few months must have been
searing--we've seen how cruel and outspoken Neil can be when
things aren't going his way, and even amicable divorces have
their occasional below-the-belt spats. The early Neil must've
been pretty spectacular to outweigh that.

Or (new idea)--perhaps he reminds her of her father? Wasn't the
comparison made once in the series? So, if life with Wellingham
has shaped her idea of what a man should be like, then Neil
(warts and all) would be just about right.

Other theories?
