Sandbaggers parallel

Anybody besides me struck by some themes in VR.5 similar to Sandbaggers?
Both shows are very dark, but more specifically . . .

It first struck me in ep # 3, when Frank Morgan (one of the good guys) gets
killed. How often does an American series kill off a character? As part of
a continuing storyline? Sandbaggers did this very effectively.

Then I started thinking about the general themes: loyalty, trust and
betrayal. VR.5 has the mysterious "Committee" with its good & bad factions.
Sandbaggers did something much more complicated than an east/west rivalry:
Foreign Office / CIA / Eurospies _and_ factions within their own bureau.

The characters and their motivations are also very complicated.

Anyway, it's been real quiet on this list . . .
