No, having been a middle aged American man in the 70's, I agree with Timothy
K. -- Ross' remarks and behavior say more about the writer's perceptions of
"good ol' boy" Americans than anything. Look at how most of the American CIA
operatives are portrayed in the Bond films. Other than Feliz Leiter in the
later entries, they wear Hawaiin shirts, back slap and speak with a loud
drawl. They're characatures and persist even today in a lot of UK
productions. But look how often we do the same -- portray Brits as Mr.
Bean or what's- his- name (Freddie?)Wooster !
